HISTORY MAKER, EMMY AWARD-WINNING JOURNALIST, AUTHOR, WELLNESS WARRIOR & MOTHER

Yep. That seems to be what they are calling me these days. After 25 years in the news business, a handful of different titles have been attached to this petite Journalist.
There were some nice reviews: “If you’ve ever watched Asha Blake on TV you’ve experienced the impact this trailblazing newswoman leaves on you.” But to be fair, another reviewer once said I asked goofy questions during an on-set interview. In life, you take the good with the bad - and learn from both!

Book Coming

Get ready to take a wild ride through my unpredictable news career! From a rookie reporter in a tiny town to the highly respected position of news anchor at NBC and ABC networks, you’ll read about the stumbles, bumbles and lessons learned ( many the hard way) that peppered my years running from story to story. My 25 years in the news trenches, serves as the backdrop for the story about a shy and quiet immigrant child, the middle of six children who became one of the first women of South Asian descent to achieve the almost impossible. Not to worry— there will also be lots of laughs and a few secret celebrity stories (never before revealed). Finally, and most importantly, I hope what ends up on the pages will be an inspirational memoir for ANYONE who needs a shot in the arm of YOU CAN DO IT power and a master class on how to be the victor not the victim in any situation. Learn resilience, hope and strength so that when you finish the book you will be able to say “I was born to win!”

COMMUNITY SERVICE

"Over the years I’ve been fortunate to meet amazing people doing unbelievable volunteer work and I’ve been happy to help out in whichever way they needed me.

Whether is was fundraising, hosting charity galas, improving a birthing center in Nepal, or helping to buy beds and sheets for kids and was all very soul fulfilling. Along the way, I was even inspired to create own public service website after 9/11 called 4MyEmergency.com, proving that anyone can make a difference. Below are a few links to some of my favorite public service organizations - you might find a passion for them too!"

UNICEF

UNICEF advocates for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. According to UNICEF, in 2018 a newborn baby died every 13 seconds. In 2019, 5.2 million children under the age of five and 1-million adolescents died of preventable causes. Thanks to generous donations, 41.3 million children got measles vaccinations in 2019. As a former celebrity ambassador for UNICEF I applaud everything they do.

ONE HEART WORLD-WIDE

The mission of this organization is to end all preventable deaths related to pregnancy and childbirth worldwide. Its programs are helping people in 21 hard to reach districts in Nepal. Donations have helped train 300 birth attendants who have assisted in more than 200,000 pregnancies over the years.

DIDI HIRSCH SUICIDE PREVENTION CENTER

The vast majority of people contemplating suicide (80%) show warning signs. These individuals encounter many people who could help them along the way—only if they knew the signs. The Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Center offers several trainings in suicide prevention and treatment and operates one of the largest suicide hotlines in the country. In 2019 the L.A. office took more than a hundred thousand calls of people in emotional or suicidal distress. As a volunteer on the hotline in L.A., I’ve experienced how just 15 minutes on the phone can save a person’s life.

GREATER MINNEAPOLIS CRISIS NURSERY

The nursery center partners with parents to prevent child abuse and neglect. It aims to strengthen families by connecting them to resources, caring for their children during difficult times and setting goals that promote self-sufficiency while making the relationship between parent and child stronger. I was a volunteer at the nursery while in college. Now they answer 400 crisis calls per year and offer shelter to 20 children each day.

4MY EMERGENCY

Following the 9/11 attacks, in 2001, I created a public service website called “4 My Emergency” which provided a free advance planning guide to help organize pertinent personal information in the event of an emergency. It’s my hope that the website better prepared people to deal with life catastrophes. Although 4MY Emergency is no longer in operation today, I’m happy that other similar sites are available online to help others.
